Three of the most common issues, easily fixed by most, are as follows.
1) Check your batteries in your thermostat.
2) Check your filters! This is a big one. Dirty filters restrict airflow causing your coil to freeze up from a lack of heat transfer at your evaporator.
3) Check the PVC drain that comes out of your unit near your condenser (outside unit). There is a float switch that will stop your unit from operating to avoid accumulated water leaking into less than ideal spaces. Fixing this is a bit trickier than the others but can easily be accomplished with the help of this video.
